Essays on difficult yet worthwhile literature.
The title literally means “worth the effort”. When the pandemic hit, the author decided to read a bunch of books that have a reputation as being difficult yet worthwhile. Bottom’s Dream, Pilgrimage, Alan Moore’s Jerusalem, etc.
Sutinen writes in an engaging way about books I haven’t read and likely will not read. Interestingly he included Robert Byron’s travelogues. That genre is rarely held as the paragon of literature but it is worthwhile.
