What it says on the tin. The stories hit hard.

The best collection of short stories I’ve read. Editor Jay Rubin has picked up the kind of stories that you think about for a long time. They come from leading Japanese authors from 19th century to the present day.

I especially liked the ones about Japanese national identity and how they see themselves in relation to the US. The ones about catastrophes, such as “Hiroshima, City of Doom” by Yōko Ōta hit pretty hard, too.
