This is a graphic novel about Kate Beaton’s time working at Canada’s oil sands to pay off her student debts. Leaving your home to find opportunities elsewhere and being one of few women in the isolated work camps are big themes. CW for sexual abuse.
If you have enjoyed Beaton’s web comic Hark! A Vagrant, you’d probably like this book, too. But: it’s much less fun and much more sad.
